Welcome music
So we completed our childbirth education boot camp class this past Sunday. Labor can't be too much more exhausting than spending 8 hours learning about it. At least we didn't see any mice in the cafeteria like our friends did at another hospital. The good news is that we really did learn some good information and it was a nice complement to everything our midwives have been teaching us. We have also decided to create a CD to play during the process. Any suggestions on what our baby should hear upon arrival? Post your votes in the comments section. Thanks!

Hey guys,
I also made some CDs for my labor, which we played in the first several hours and it actually did make me feel better. I remember putting Norah Jones, James Taylor, Jack Johnson, some Simon and Garfunkel - just kind of quiet, calm, familiar music to make my mind off of things. I still have those CDs and now Stella and I listen to them in the car.
However, her favorite song of all time is "rhythm of the night" by El DeBarge. You know my kid gets her rhythm from her mom's side.
Good Luck!
Our friend Johnathan Fowler was born to "The William Tell Overture," playing on an 8-track. The beginning is quite peaceful, but it switched to the "good part" just as his actual birth began. The timing was so perfect that the doctor stopped what he was doing, looked up, and said "I don't believe this!"
So... instead of a CD, how about an 8-track? :)
I have a great suggestion, they say that classical Music is good for a childs brain right? Well why not some classical music, here are some that come to mind for me (the first 2 are album names) 1) "Man of La Mancha" 2) "Psalms of the Trinity Psalter, vol 2" I have both of these CDs I can loan to you, or maybe you could do some Bach. Or maybe some classic Hymnaty ;-)
Kaethe and Jonathan, it is great to see your blog site. I am so glad you told me about it. One of these days I'll get mine posted and let you in on the address. Im a bit shy about it yet.
Anyway, I wanted to suggest a song that I put on a playlist today. Its called, "Nowhere Warm" by Kate Havnevik. The title doesn't necessarily sound appropriate. But, actually the song is about waiting for someone to arrive and knowing that they're on the way. Its a beautiful song. I'm sure that the next door neighbors are very sick of it--I've been listening to it a lot this week. You can find in on iTunes.
It was great to see you both tonight.

Bolero is a very long classical song...it might be appropriate seeing as we're all waiting a long time for this belated baby. S/He must take after his dad.
They also say that if you play "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd and watch "The Wizard of Oz", that there are coincidences in the lyrics and timing.
However, my best suggestion is the Best of Van Halen Volumes 1 and 2. Can't go wrong Sammy Hagar screaming, "Why can't this be love?"
No hymns, please.
